Sweden 2017

Work trip to Sweden with one day off in Norway.

MEL-DXB-ARN (-KRN)

The first real snow without skiing and without being a holiday. Missed the northern lights by a month and could go slightly crazy by the midnight sun.

Stockholm

No this is not Japan 2017 again, the cherry blossums of Stockholm!

Strandvagen

Nordik museum on Djurgården

Nordiska museum

Nobel Museum - don't go in, unless it's free

Old town

The royal palace under wraps

More royal palace

Looking towards Eric Ericsonhallen

The strandvagen (left), Djurgården (right)

The Vasa museum. Launched 1628.... immediately sank.

St Johns Church

35hours from door to door.

Kiruna Lappland

From the 30hour flight straight to the work site and beat the containers from Melbourne by 2 minutes.

Minus 10 and snowy

Luossavaara, (left - mined through the centre and now a ski hill) and town (right) and the subsidence zone (front)

Bishops Arms late night trivia

Church of Sweden, Kiruna Church. In 2001, Kiruna Church was voted the most popular pre-1950 building in Sweden, in a country-wide poll.

Payground covered in 1m snowpack. By the end of the trip, this was all grass.

Downtown Kiruna.

Live. Ski. Heal. Repeat.

Iced up alleyways

The visitor centre

The LKAB pizza, reindeer + 3 other meats

Just after a blizzard had rolled by.

The firestation

Driving to Malmberget

A lot of old cars roam around at 30km/h. Kirrunalaps

Not quite the Sapporo snow festival, but the sun has taken it's toll

What? Another foul, what is this fancy bowling alley?

Looking up the mined Luossavaara

Not sure they are doing it right.

Midnight sunserise

Midnight sunset and sunrise

Walking up Luossavaara

Midnight sun trail

Owe quite a bit of FIKA

Kiruna municipality, home to ESA rocket research

Restaurant 1300m underground

What is this? The deathstar? All these trays are wet.

Town from Luossavaara

Walking down the slopes of Luossavaara

Stayed out partying from sunset to sunrise!

The underground team

The whole town came out to see the town moved.

Moving the town 2 miles East.

Midnight sun trail.

More midnight photography

Abisko / Narvik

Second largest suspension bridge (when completed) Hålogaland. 20 minute saving drive time to the airport sounds more beleieveable than the tulla widening for the same time saving.

Narvik Spire

Still 2400km from Santa

Narvik town centre

Fyords of Norway.

Abisko

Driving back to Sweden

Abisko cave ice waterfall thing and the iron ore

Sweden really is full of lakes. Hopefully with no mosquito larva. To be continued.
